A group of researchers from the University of Queensland in Australia, has published an article in the journal Evolution and Human Behavior in which it is explained that female infidelity may be rooted in a genetic condition. 

According to psychologist Brendan P. Zietsch, lead author of the study, the tendency to promiscuity in women may be related to mutations in the receptor gene the hormone vasopressin, a hormone linked to trust, empathy and sexuality. 

The experiment was conducted with 7,400 twins and siblings, who had maintained a stable relationship for at least one year; including a close relationship between five different variants of vasopressin and the trend of female infidelity was detected. Specifically, 40% of the variation in women promiscuous behavior can be attributed to genetic condition mentioned. 

To Zietsch, this does not mean that infidelity can be explained entirely by a hormonal cause, as they also affect other factors such as the circumstances, but notes that the mutation vasopressin receptor gene proves to be a strong determinant for the tendency to promiscuous behavior in women.
