Swedish researchers who studied the mummified remains of Peder Winstrup, a bishop of the seventeenth century Sweden, have discovered with great surprise, to perform a CT scan, a fetus of four or five months, hidden at the foot of the cleric. The presence of the fetus is not the only peculiarity of the case: scholars have said that this is one of the best preserved bodies of seventeenth-century Europe, which was not embalmed but was dried naturally.
This miracle, it takes to keep their bodies intact after centuries, it was given by the combination of several factors: constant air flow, the presence of plant material in the coffin and burial during the cold winter months, among others.
For one of the principal investigators, Per Karsten, the remains of the bishop "are a unique clinical file on the lives and health of people who lived in the seventeenth century history."
For now, it was learned was in Winstrup bed for a long period of time before his death, suffering tuberculosis and pneumonia, and wearing a rich diet as their decayed teeth suggest sugary foods and gallstones indicate a high consumption of fatty foods The researchers now plan to focus on. study in plant material and textiles found in the coffin, so maybe add some clue leading to unravel the mysterious presence of the fetus by the cleric.
