    The December 26, 1973 one of the scariest movies ever made his debut, "The Exorcist". Directed by William Friedkin and starring Linda Blair, the film was a blockbuster. 

    It was nominated for 10 Academy Awards, including Best Director and Best Picture. Based on a novel by William Peter Blatty, published in 1971, the film tells the story of Regan (Linda Blair), a 12-year-old begins to have a strange behavior. His mother (Ellen Burstyn), concerned, contacts with a priest, and this will restart exorcise. Two priests, played by Max Von Sydow and Jason Miller, go to Regan's house to perform the exorcism.


    The film had several sequels: "The Exorcist II: The Heretic" (1977); "The Exorcist III" (1990), written and directed by William Peter Blatty, who won the Oscar for Best Screenplay; "Exorcist: The Beginning" (2004), directed by Renny Harlin; and the prequel "Dominion: Prequel to the Exorcist" (2005), directed by Paul Schrader.


    The film launched to stardom Linda Blair, who had started his acting career in commercials, and earned him a nomination for Best Supporting Actress. A director, William Friedkin, he is also known for the award-winning film "The French Connection" (1971).
